MONTEREY, CA, March 23, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ — William Decker Hatch II has been included in Marquis Who’s Who. As in all Marquis Who’s Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Mr. Hatch is a retired military officer and a senior lecturer at the Naval Postgraduate School in the Center for Executive Education. His storied history with the United States Navy began in 1982 when he became a commissioned officer as recognized by the Naval Reserve Officer Training Unit at University of California, Berkeley. His first active-duty appointment was a surface warfare officer appointment in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, after which Mr. Hatch served most of his naval experiences in the maritime context working as an engineer aboard frigates, destroyers, cruisers, and staff embarked on board the aircraft carrier USS Independence homeported in Yokosuka Japan, between 1993 and 1997.
Multiple deployments additionally define Mr. Hatch’s military tenure, including being stationed in the Indian Ocean and the Persian Gulf, as well as an extended five-year position in Japan. He retired in 2004 at the rank of commander, then transitioned to accept a faculty role at the Naval Postgraduate School, which included 11 years as an appointed lecturer between 2005 and 2013. In 2013, he was promoted to the rank of senior lecturer and researcher in the Graduate School of Business and Public Policy and transitioned to the Center for Executive Education in 2018. Those credentials made possible direct interaction with graduate students; notably, Mr. Hatch cites engaging with students as an adviser on thesis documents as one of the most rewarding aspects of his career.
The Naval Postgraduate School is Mr. Hatch’s alma mater, from which he earned a Master of Science in Management in 1992. He completed undergraduate studies at San Jose State University, finishing a Bachelor of Arts in 1982—the same year he was granted a commission from the Naval Reserve Officer Training Unit at Berkeley. As a scholar and an educator, he concentrates on niche subjects including military manpower, military and civilian human resource management, and personnel education and training, and Mr. Hatch is proud to be in demand as an instructor in both domestic and international contexts.
Many distinguished accomplishments define Mr. Hatch’s scholarly profile, including his success at crafting a condensed curriculum on manpower management as requested and then endorsed by the United States Navy. Under his jurisdiction, the course was executed in Washington, DC, and in Millington, Tennessee, and Mr. Hatch has continued to impart critical refinements to the instructional content in alignment with the military’s personnel system adjustments. Notably, the manpower management materials are still in use today.
As the son of an Air Force lieutenant colonel, Mr. Hatch is gratified to capably perpetuate a family legacy of military service. Looking to the future, he aims to further elevate his scholarly and professional profile to secure an alumnus or emeritus designation at the Naval Postgraduate School, or Mr. Hatch will pursue federally funded programs that provide key opportunities through which he can extend his reach and share his knowledge through research and development.
